Hello I’m Mark and bonabaking is my blog.
I think I know a bit about baking, but want to know more. Baking is my favourite craft, hobby and source of relaxation at my seaside home in Brighton. I would love to do The Great British Bake Off but do not have enough nerve to bare my culinary soul to the nation on TV, with the ripe age of 60 looming I’m guessing if I lack the nerve now then I’m probably not going to discover it!
I have not had professional training in baking; I did a one-day taster course at Le Cordon Bleu and absolutely loved it. One of my ambitions, when I grow up, is to complete the 3-part patisserie course at Le Cordon Bleu, however as this is currently priced in the region of £15,000 then it is not going to happen soon.
My long-suffering husband Erik has given me 2 books and I’m planning my blog around them. The books are Patisserie & Baking Foundations by Le Cordon Bleu and Patisserie & Baking Foundations Classic Recipes. All I know at this stage is that life is too short to make puff pastry and I’ve never felt the need to make a Madeleine so I’m guessing they would be a good place to start.
This blog is not meant to be a platform for me to boast my incredible prowess in the culinary arts as I think I am sadly lacking prowess or anything as grand. I’m hoping that it will be something where I and hopefully some of you can, together discover the pitfalls along the way! If I mess up I do intend to show you where I did that so, hopefully we can learn together.
Naturally I welcome comments, hints and tips that you may have so do feed back to me, I look forward to hearing from you.
